Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport Sky Train Stage 2

About the Project

Hensel Phelps provided Construction Manager at Risk services for the Sky Train Stage 2 project at Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport. This project completed the overall Sky Train system, which began in 2008 with Hensel Phelps delivering Stage 1 Fixed Facilities. Stage 2 extended the system from Terminal 3 to the Rental Car Center west of the airport. With this addition, passengers gained seamless access across Sky Harbor—from parking lots and passenger pick-up areas to Terminals 3 and 4, and the Rental Car Center.

The project featured a 2.5-mile extension of elevated, at-grade, and below-grade guideway, along with two new passenger stations. The 24th Street Station served the west end of the airport’s economy parking and public transportation connections. The Rental Car Center Station directly linked travelers to the existing rental car facility. Additionally, the project included structural provisions for a future station to serve the planned West Terminal, supporting the airport’s long-term expansion needs.
